The invention provides an irregular-shaped spectacle frame superficial area detection device which is characterized by comprising a box body, wherein a detection platform is arranged at the bottom of the box body, four groups of LED (light emitting diode) white light sources are symmetrically arranged on the left side and the right side of the detection platform, a high-precision CCD (charge coupled device) imaging system is arranged above the detection platform, a reflection inhibition film is arranged below the high-precision CCD imaging system through a lens, and a display and a controller are connected with the detection platform through a light source controller. The invention also provides an irregular-shaped spectacle frame superficial area detection method which is characterized by comprising the steps of: through acquiring images of two side surfaces of a spectacle frame and obtaining an image of a cross section of the spectacle frame, establishing a spectacle frame cross section image sequence with a unit pixel as a step length, calculating a sum of edge pixels, and figuring out a total area of the surface of the spectacle frame. According to the detection device and method, the superficial area of the spectacle frame is measured based on a machine vision system and an image processing technology; and the characteristics of convenience in detection, strong instantaneity and high accuracy are achieved.
