The measurement of the absorbed dose in thin blood samples irradiated by relativistic protons

2001
A technique of blood sample irradiation by the 1 GeV protons is described. The experiment was carried out to study chromosomic aberrations induced in human lymphocytes by the low absorbed doses. A complex method of the dosimetry and monitoring of the irradiation has been developed and tested. It comprises several types of ionization chambers, activation detectors and thermoluminescent detectors. The problems of measurement and estimation of the absorbed dose of protons in thin samples with necessary accuracy are discussed; the relative uncertainty of it is estimated to be about 6%.
