Cybersecurity of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices

Reports in 2016 that St. Jude implantable defibrillators might be vulnerable to hacking brought to light how unprepared the medical community was to evaluate and manage a potential cybersecurity crisis. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the present cybersecurity landscape, including the existing infrastructure in place to minimize cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the important role that healthcare providers serve both in reducing the risks and advising patients.
