El peligro por sequía agrícola en la provincia de La Habana

Based on the main agro climatology products as a result of the Agricultural Drought, Surveillance, Forecasting and Early Warning System, executed by the Agricultural Meteorology Center of the Meteorology Institute, was designed the combined agricultural drought index. It was developed basis on the agricultural drought diagnosis (beginning and condition) and intensity (water stress severity), which offers in three scales the danger levels due to agricultural drought. The frequency analysis in time and space, allowed us to process the information of this index that enables risk managers, specialists and decision-makers related to the agricultural sector to act in a timely manner in the adoption of prevention measures with a view to facing periods with the presence of agricultural drought. The calculation of the danger was made for all Cuba, however a window zoom analysis has been opened in the Havana province given the importance of this phenomenon although it does not seem so since approximately more than 54% of its territorial extension has an agricultural- forest.vocation. The results are also an additional input to carry out the analysis together with the studies of the meteorological and agricultural drought hazard in order to obtain the integrated hazard, which in turn constitutes a thematic layer in the hazard, vulnerability and risk studies.
