The influence of baling at high moisture on Alfalfa hay quality and composition

The yield of alfalfa hay and crude protein was studied at high and low moisture content. The result were showed as follows: with reduced moisture content, the ratio of stem to leaf increased, as well as loss rate of leaf. The correlation of moisture and ratio of stem to leaf of unpressed stem was line, but was index curve to pressed stem. The yield and dry matter and crude protein of hay baled at high moisture was 1 817 kg/hm~2, 915 kg/hm~2, 192 kg/hm~2 more than that of general bale respectively.
