Considering the current discussion of environmental issues, the introduction of interdisciplinary topics such as biodiesel in the classroom is an essential strategy for student comprehension of issues related to this energy source (Oliveira et al.,2008). This project aimed at checking teacher knowledge regarding renewable energy in private and state schools in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ). We concluded that most teachers have never approached the issue in their classes. The study demonstrates that teachers need to approach the topic in class.
