Plastic Compression of Rectangular Blocks Between Two Parallel Platens

Hill’s analysis for compression of a long rectangular strip was modified so that the analysis is applicable to the compression of a rectangular block having any length-width ratio. The predictions were compared with experimental results obtained with annealed pure aluminium in terms of load-displacement relationships, changes in specimen geometry, flowlines, and grid distortions. Also, a comparison was made for the load-displacement curves by the modified analysis and by the sandheap analogy.
