Procainamide Absorption in Short Bowel Syndrome

1983
Oral procainamide was administered to a 68-year-old male with short bowel syndrome resulting from small bowel infarction. Therapeutic procainamide levels were achieved in this patient with a markedly reduced absorptive surface. The limited data regarding absorption of other drugs in short bowel syndrome are also reviewed.
