Sewage Treatment and Disposal - Constraints and Opportunities

The legislative, technical, land use and economic considerations influencing design of schemes for disposal of sewage and sewage effluents to the sea are briefly reviewed. Three case studies are outlined with particular reference to the comparison of costs of alternative disposal options. Finally, opportunities for improvement of present disposal practice are suggested featuring the scope for wider application of new technology.
