Gravidez na adolescência: revendo a hipótese de empowerment

Discutir sobre gravidez na adolescencia tem sido recorrente na midia, na sociedade comum e nos discursos de especialistas e educadores. Nos debates, dois argumentos sao fundamentais. Por um lado, o aumento da taxa de fecundidade da adolescencia, diferentemente das tendencias atuais de reducao do numero de filhos por mulher adulta. Por outro lado, o tema do “desperdicio da juventude” ou do “fracasso da transicao entre a infância e a idade adulta”. Revendo esses debates, pretendemos com este artigo associar a gravidez na adolescencia a hipotese de empowerment de genero, a fim de subsidiar novas propostas de intervencao psicossocial relacionadas a tematica. Teen ager pregnancy has been a recurring subject of discussion in midia, in society at large and in the discourses of specialists and educators. Two arguments are fundamentals in such debate. On the one hand, there is an increase in the rates of fertility during adolescence, differently from the contemporary lowering of the birth rate among adult women. On the other hand, there are beliefs about “loosing the youth”and of “failure on transition to adulthood”. Reviewing these debates, we intend to associate pregnancy in adolescence to the hypothesis of gender empowerment, an interesting viewpoint to consider within psychosocial intervention programs.
