Functional state of the sex glands in men with encephaloophthalmopathies pathogenetically associated with thyrotoxicosis

1983
: In 36 young males with encephaloophthalmopathy, resultant of thyrotoxicosis, androgen and estrogen concentrations were studied using radioimmunoassay (for the blood determination) and physico-chemical methods (for the urine detection). The blood plasma and urine androgen levels decreased in the patients examined. The total 17-ketosteroid excretion remained unchanged, whereas the fraction ratio was disordered. The blood plasma and urine estrogen content increased. A tendency of normalizing the changed sex hormone levels was observed in patients with encephaloophthalmopathy after recovery.
