A prototype proposal for detection and reduction of stress by using Brain waves and IoT

The disease called stress, that in educational context is known as academic stress, is generated by many factors present in the student life. This may end in the development of mental illness, which is one of the most common causes for the students drop out of college, and produces a low academic performance or demotivation. The present research aims to develop a prototype that reduces student’s stress levels by monitoring the brain wave activity and the stress level generated by the records of an EPOC+ electroencephalogram device. In case of the presence of high levels of stress, music therapy is applied, a therapy with proven effects in the treatment of stress reduction. This therapy is structured in a way that interacts with the stress level of the student through an IoT device.The therapy has two phases. The first phase monitors brain wave activity such as alpha, beta, gamma, theta, and the stress level. In contrast, the second one applies the use of music therapy monitors its effects according to whether the stress level exceeds the defined threshold.
