Removal performance of solid wastes in Japanese flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus) culture in a recirculating system

The solid wastes in Japanese flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus) culture was eliminated by settling basin,hydrocyclone,and foam fractionator in a recirculating system.There was less than 10 mg/L of particles in the rearing tanks because the dry weight of solids removal by settling basin,foam fractionator,and hydrocyclone was(11.3±3.5),(4.8±1.0) and(0.2±0.1)g/d,respectively.A better removal performance of non-settleable solids was found in the foam fractionator which eliminated(4.2±1.1)g/d of dry weight of solid wastes containing 93.2% of volatile suspended solids.Approximately 245.8 g of dry weight of solids waste was produced per kg of feed.
