The Formarion of Pits on Substrate of FeAl Intermetallics during Oxidation
1998
Oxidation tests of FeAl intermetallics have been performed in ambient atmosphere at temperatures ranging from 1000 to 1200degreeC for 50 hours. The morphologies of the oxidised specimens were studied by using Scanning Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscope. The results showed that pits with certain shapes and orientations formed on the surface of the substrate. The feature and formation mechanism of the pits were discussed based on the experimental results.
