The invention discloses a method for saving electric power of a GPS mobile telephone, which comprises that, a vibration detection module is added in a GPS mobile telephone composed of a mobile telephone core module, a GPS module and a battery, mechanical vibration of the mobile telephone is detected by the vibration detection module, when the vibration detection module does not detect a vibrationsignal, that means, the position of the mobile telephone is not changed, the mobile telephone core module can control the GPS module into an electric power-saving state; otherwise, when the vibrationdetection module detects a vibration signal, that means, the position of the mobile telephone is changed, the mobile telephone core module can control the GPS module out of the electric power-saving state. In this way, the GPS mobile telephone can enter the electric power-saving state even in a standby state, the standby power consumption of the GPS mobile telephone is approach to the standby power consumption of a traditional mobile telephone, thereby prolonging the standby time of the GPS mobile telephone.
