Indonesian National Family Planning Service Statistics: a cost-effectiveness analysis.

1972
The effectiveness and efficiency of the Indonesian Family Planning Program is analyzed from a limited cost-effectivenss scope. 5 indices were devised to study the cost performance of the program over a 5-year period. Specifically the investigators wanted to see how much a unit of program production be it an acceptor couple-year of protection (CYP) or client served costs per year. It was determined that graphically the cost-per-acceptor cost-per-CYP and cost-per-client-served curves decreased over time. It is believed that this reflects an increased efficiency in the program. Indonesian cost per capita cost per acceptor and cost per CYP were compared with data from selected developing country family planning programs. Most of the programs were 5-11 years old while the Indonesian program was 5 years old. The Indonesian program appeared to fall along the cost spectrum of the other programs. It was more expensive on a cost-per-CYP basis than the Taiwan program but not as expensive as the Tunisian program.
