Battery energy storage based balancing of a microgrid

This paper presents a decision based optimization model for real-time power balancing in a microgrid. The microgrid is a real facility from Constanta County, Romania, at the premises of a private company. The simulations have been done with a discretization time interval of 1 minute. Two battery energy storage systems were installed to smooth the power variations. In this paper we analyzed various scenarios to determine the best operation strategy of the batteries and the gas-fueled synchronous generator.
