Effect of fluoride on resorption pit of osteoclast in vitro

2003
Objective To study the effect of fluoride on resorption pit of osteoclast. Methods Osteo-clasts were isolated mechanically from long bones of neonatal rats and cultured on the bone slices in the 24-hole plate for 1 day; then different concentrations of fluoride were added into them. The changes in the number and size of resorption pits were observed in vitro . Results The number and size of resorption pits were elevated gradually with the increasie of fluoride concentration. There were statistical differences between fluoride groups and control group( P 0.05), especially in 4.0 mg/L fluoride group (P 0.01). Conclusions The bone resorption activity of osteoclast is enhanced with the increasing of fluoride concentration within certain dosage.
