In modern studies of the tablet compression process, mathematical models are used for estimation of the mechanical properties of tablets, the most widely applied of which are the Heckel and Kawakita models. However, these models have a number of limitations associated with the impossibility of taking into account all processes occurring in parallel during interparticle interaction. In 1999, a group of scientists developed a new approach based on the so-called Kuenz – Leuenberger equation. The article presents an analysis of modern research concerning the applicability of this equation in comparison to the most common models used for description of the tablet pressing process.
