Structure of Supramolecular Assemblies Formed by Cucurbituril and [Zn(H_2O)6]~(2+)

A supramolecular assembly based on cucurbituril(Q[6]) and[Zn(H2O)6]2+ was synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffractions.The crystal structure of this complex showed that a dioxane molecule was included in the cavity of Q[6],and the transition metal ion Zn2+ was coordinated six water molecules and located at the portals between two Q[6] to form the molecular encapsulates.Through the hydrogen bonds formed with the coordinated water molecules with Zn cation and the portal carbonyl oxygen of the Q[6],a one dimensional supramolecular chain of alternating octahedral and Q[6] molecules was formed.
