Globalização, desenvolvimento desigual e democracia

2019
In this text, after a brief critical analysis of the process of globalization and of unequaldevelopment and its main assumptions and visions – neoliberal, neoinstitutional, marxist, territorialist and decolonial – on contemporary society, the author will focus on the virtualities and limits of current democracy, notably in the economic, social and political dimensions of democracy. It is not possible to speak of development without democracy and so little is possible to realize democracy in full sense facing the various types and forms of social inequality. In other words, social inequalities (territorial, class, racial-ethnic and gender) compromise not only direct and associative democracy, but also the representative democracy itself, insofar as it strongly affects social, economic, cultural and political rights. The representative democracy, in addition to being potentiated in its maximum intensity, should be complemented with direct, associative democracy.
