2002
The coast of the gulf of Mexico is characterized by dry, temperate regions highly variable in climatic conditions. This area is rich in drought tolerant or subhumid medicinal species. Species that are potentially useful for human and wildlife health haven't been exploited from the point of view of chemistry, pharmacology and biomedicine. This study was undertaken to identify the medicinal species, their uses, and their abundance in forest and chaparral of southeast of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. From a total of 89 families, 260 genus and 375 species analyzed, we have determined 37 families, 54 genera and 60 species with medicinal characteristics. These species have shown a higher dominance in Pinus-Quercus forest in comparison to Pinus-Abies ecosystem.
