The invention relates to a method for preparing a carbonized corn granule. The preparation method comprises the following steps: smashing the corn into 20-120 mesh, and putting into a carbonization furnace, performing carbonization treatment for 15-30 minutes at a carbonization temperature of 400-550 degrees centigrade, discharging out of the furnace and cooling to room temperature to obtain the carbonized corn granule. The invention further discloses a filter rod made from the carbonized corn granule. The carbonized corn granule is added into a filter rod tow and is processed into the filter rod through a conventional process, and the adding amount of the carbonized corn granule is 25mg/cm-80mg/cm which is the content along the length direction of the filter rod. The filter rod has the advantages that the filter rod made from the carbonized corn granule has a special natural popcorn faint scent smell and is capable of improving the quality of the smoke; meanwhile the carbonized corn granule has the effect of an activated carbon and has an obvious tar-reducing effect on the oil tar in the smoke.
