A compound of tinidazole-iodoform gelatin sponge embedded in the socket after tooth extraction to reduce postexodontic complications

2007
Objective To compare the effects of the tinidazole-iodoform gelatin sponge(compound) and iodophors gelatin sponge embedded in the mandibular molar socket after tooth extraction for reducing postexodontic complications.Methods286 patients with impacted(low site tooth or impacted tooth) mandibular third molar were divided randomly into two groups,A and B.Group A(n=143) was treated with tinidazole-iodoform gelatin sponge,Group B(n=143,control group)with iodophors gelatin sponge.ResultsIncidence of dry socket in in group A and B was 0.70% and 4.90%(P0.05),hemorrhage was 0.00% and 2.80%(P0.05),faciobuccal swelling was 5.59% and 9.09%(P0.05),and limitation of mouth opening was 2.10% and 7.69%(P0.05),respectively.Conclusion Tinidazole-iodoform gelatin sponge embedded in socket after impacted mandibular molars extraction could reduce postexodontic complications.Tinidazole-iodoform gelatin sponge might be more effective, safe and clinically valuable than iodophors gelatin sponge.
