Effect of low level laser on dental pulp tissue duringorthodontic movement

2017
SUMMARYLow level laser application in orthodonticsattempts to accelerate the inducedorthodontic movement and to dissipate thedental discomfort during treatment. Therecognition of its biological foundation is afundamental issue to understand the effectof all tissues involved in the irradiated zone. There have been research findings on thecell proliferation and empowerment ofcell functions, promotion of bone remodeling, and decreasing of the local swellingand pain during orthodontic treatments. However, the positive results of the laserapplication on cells involved in the orthodonticmovement have not widely beeninvestigated.Literature indicates a lack of research findingon the effect of low laser therapy onthe dentin-pulp complex, which demandsrandomized controlled trials. For thesereasons, the aim of this paper attempts tocompile the main publications done regardingthe effect of low level laser therapyon dental pulp tissue.Key words: Laser, Low level laser, dentalpulp, ortodonthic tratment.
