A Relational Model for Clinical Objective Results

Abstract Children's Hospital has chosen to develop an interface between its central, relational database and its vendor-supplied laboratory systems. We describe here the relational model for objective results which we are using in this implementation. The model presented addresses a variety of data types, permits hierarchical structuring of test results, and is flexible. The major parts of the entity-relationship model are covered, including a discussion of some of the major design decisions.
