Process design for gear shaping of austempered ductile iron (ADI) components

2021
Abstract Gears made of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) have advantages regarding the operational behavior compared to standard cast iron. The challenging machinability of ADI is a major obstacle for its economical use for powertrain engineering. The lack of systematic and scientific knowledge of the material and its use in gear production furthermore hinders the process design for gear shaping. For this reason, the objective of the report is to provide an economic process design for the gear shaping of ADI gears. Computer-aided force measurements and wear tests were carried out to achieve this objective.
