The characteristics and treatment for incised palm injury in children

2001
Objective To analyse the characteristics and treatment forincised palm injury in children. Methods From 1996 to 1999 , 5 cases with incised flexor tendon of 2 ,3 ,4 fingers associated with median nerve damage were admitted. The injuries were repaired in one-stage on emergent treatment(3) or delayed(2).Results Four patients were followed- up for a period from 2 months to 3 years. The sensation and motor function of the involved fingers recovered near normal . Total active movement (TAM) came up to 90% of the normal range. Conclusions The traumatic flexor tendon injury of palm in children is always associated with median nerve damage. A thorough examination of the soft tissue injuries is important to provide a basis for evaluation of repairing. An urgent complete restoration of the injuries followed by appropriate immobilization should be applied.
