Iron-Catalyzed C5 Halogenation of 8-Amidoquinolines Using Sodium Halides at Room Temperature

2017
An efficient method for the iron-catalyzed chlorination or bromination of quinoline at C5 positions using sodium halides at room temperature is described. The present process furnishes good yields and selectivities of the desired remote C–H activation products under mild reaction conditions. A plausible single electron transfer mechanism of the remote halogenation of quinolines is proposed on basis of the results of various control experiments. Text for Table of Contents: A simple and efficient process for the iron-catalyzed chlorination or bromination of quinoline at C5 positions using sodium halides at room temperature is described.
