A Fault Location Algorithm for DC Distribution Network Based on Transient Fault Components

At present, the development of the theory and technology of fault location and protection for AC power grids has matured. Although the research on DC power grid has achieved certain results, it has not yet reached the level of practicality. For power grid fault location, the principle of AC power network location can not be directly applied to DC distribution network. On the basis of summarizing the existing principle of power network location, a fault location algorithm suitable for flexible DC distribution network is proposed in this paper. The algorithm considers the process of capacitance discharge and uses transient components to locate faults. Firstly, the equivalent model of system fault is analyzed according to the system structure. Then the fault location algorithm is proposed and its feasibility is analyzed in principle. Finally, a two-terminal flexible distribution network model is built in PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation data is processed in MATLAB, which verifies the effectiveness of the algorithm.
