1.01 – One or More CH Bond(s) Formed by Substitution: Reduction of CHalogen and CChalcogen Bonds

2005
This chapter begins by reviewing the reduction of haloalkanes to the corresponding alkane. While radical reduction methodology dominates this field, the importance of other techniques is also considered. Coverage of oxygen-containing systems follows—including, amongst others, the reduction of alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylates to the alkane oxidation state. Finally, the reduction of sulfur-, selenium-, and tellurium-containing systems is discussed.
