Who Is Going to Defend the Rights of the Child in School

In 1989, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a document of supreme legal and pedagogical importance. The Convention was ratified on June 13, 1990, by the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and went into effect for the Russian Federation, as the successor to the USSR, as of September 15, 1990. At the present time, the rights of the child are protected by the Russian Federation Law on Education (Articles 5, 6, 32,50, 51, and so on); the teaching of the right is incorporated in the compulsory part of the basic syllabus that was approved by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation; books have been published to popularize the Convention on the Rights of the Child; study aids for students concerning the right are being developed; and so forth.
