A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TWO METHODS TO ASSESS OPERATIONAL TRAFFIC CONSEQUENCES OF BUS PREEMPTION

1995
In this paper, the authors present two methods for assessing the operational consequences for traffic of bus preemption at a signalized intersection. For both the methods, algorithms for computing queue lengths and delays are developed using deterministic queuing principles. The procedures are adapted from queuing theory and are designed to assess three types of preemption strategies: green extension, red truncation, and red interruption.
