A method for transmitting data in a channel of a wireless communication system, the method comprising: packaging a data payload into a plurality of subpackets; and sequentially transmitting (40, 71) subpackets of a first portion of the plurality of subpackets at periodic intervals, the method characterized in: determining channel state information for the channel; and sequentially transmitted (42, 75) subpackets of a second portion of the plurality of subpackets not periodically at times when channel state information indicates that there are favorable channel conditions.
