Method for texturing surface of element, method for texturing surface of substrate and method for manufacturing disk for data recording

1994
PURPOSE: To controllably form the fine elevations of high reproducibility in the specified area of a surface by using a single laser pulse for which energy fluence is precisely controlled and texturing a brittle surface. CONSTITUTION: A glass disk substrate 12 is rotated with a shaft 20 as an axis by a motor 22 and the entire motor shaft assembly is translated in a radial direction. Synchronized with the rotation and translation of a disk, a pulse laser 10 is pulse oscillated by excitation signals 18 and output pulses 24 are obtained. The output pulses 24 are deflected by a movable mirror 26 and split and the surfaces 14 and 16 of the substrate 12 are textured by the mechanical control of the mirror 26. In this case, radiation energy selectively concentrated to a plurality of positions with intervals present on the processing area of the brittle surface uses the fluence smaller than the heat impact limit of a brittle material. Thus, many fine elevations are formed without generating the microcracks and jetting of a surface material. COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
