Dynamic mechanical properties and constitutive relationship of particle-reinforced AZ91D composites

2018
Abstract The flow stress behavior of 10 vol % silicon carbide particulate reinforced AZ91D composites was investigated by compression tests. The addition of silicon carbide particles improves the strength of the composites enormously, three main mechanisms account for this behavior. Positive strain rate effect on yield strength under dynamic compression is available, and the mechanisms for strain rate sensitivity is analyzed. The adiabatic temperature rise converted from plastic deformation work at various strain rates is calculated, and the modified J-C model is employed to characterize the flow stress curves.
