Background The optimal surgical approach for adenocarcinoma directly at the esophagogastric junction (AEG II) is still under debate. This study aims to evaluate the differences between right thoracoabdominal esophagectomy (TAE) (Ivor–Lewis operation) and transhiatal extended gastrectomy (THG) for AEG II.
