Air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)

2019
Abstract Transportation is one of the main actors in the process of air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, generating impacts to the environment, which may cause problems to human health, reduced quality of life, and damage to material goods. Because of it, this Chapter presents the profile of air pollutant and GHG emissions resulting from the operation of transportation and from the use of fossil fuels. Emphasis is naturally given to road transportation due to its importance. Additionally, measures of control and limitation of air pollutant emissions are presented and categorized. To associate transportation with air pollution and GHG emission involves many variables, which makes it complex, but there is still room for improvement in this area, especially because the private initiative and the public authorities are constantly evolving regarding the improvement of technological, managerial, and political aspects.
