THE INFLUENCE OF RESTRUCTURING THE GOODS MOVEMENT SYSTEM ON TRANSPORTATION DEMAND MANAGEMENT(TDM)

1998
The improvement of goods movement has been implemented by private companies. This means that the physical distribution system in private companies has been optimized by the transportation system. The focus has been on transport between cities for lower costs and rationalization of the system. However, private companies cannot control the feeder flow of physical distribution in urban areas and the local district level. In order to respond to these requirements, it is necessary to restructure the goods movement system in urban areas. This results in collaboration, consolidation, and limitation of the physical distribution system which are related to TDM in the urban transportation system. Restructuring the goods movement system is an important role for TDM, because of the high ratio of freight vehicles in Japanese transportation. (A)
