trailer acoustic transmitter

1995
Towed acoustic transmitters forming an underwater vehicle for towing a linear acoustic receiving antenna (105) are disclosed. The vertical streamlined acoustic antenna (303) of the transmitter is placed right at the back of the underwater vehicle, and the weight of the antenna is counterbalanced using streamlined ballast (313) positioned right at the front of the vehicle. A beam (310) with a small cross-section joins the two portions together and the centre of gravity of the whole assembly is located at the front of and below the beam. The vehicle is towed using a cable (101) attached thereto by means of an intermediate member (314) secured to a ball (315) above the centre of gravity. The assembly may thus be more easily submerged and recovered while achieving a greater immersion depth.
