PROGRESS IN CUBA: THE REGIONAL DIMENSION

2016
In this article the Latin American debt crisis of the 1980s, leading to the revolt of the social movements in the 1990s, and on to the political 'Pink Tide' of the 2000s, is juxtaposed with the Latin American experience of regional initiatives, culminating in the institutions of CELAC, UNASUR and ALBA. In addition, the importance of the Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra America (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America), or ALBA, as a progressive institution to enhance human potentials, which complements the political reforms of 2010-12 in Cuba, is discussed.
