Georgian Migration Data Harmonization with European Standards

Out-migration is an important issue for Georgia as well as since independence has loosed due to emigration more than one million of its population. The official statistics on migration published for this period was based on the administrative system of population registration, were insignificant in terms of numbers and did not represent the real scope of these migration movements. This paper discusses an overview of issues related to the statistical data quality and describes of existing in Georgia system of statistical data collection and analysis of efforts made by governmental and international agencies on the improvement of the Georgian official statistics, including deep analysis of impact of legislative reforms on this process.
