Numerical Weather Prediction: A Vision of the Future, Updated Still Further

It is a great pleasure to be reminded of the Bergen Symposium, which I enjoyed so much, and to take the opportunity to update my own small, somewhat personal contribution (McIntyre 1994) culminating in a vision of the future of numerical weather prediction. One reason to update it and to reemphasize the points made at Bergen is that the most important, and perhaps the most controversial, of those points still seem to me likely to hold good at the future time envisaged—despite my being forced by today’s politics to go a bit further into the future.
