Properties and reaction processes at the hardening of some organo-mineral cements (glass-ionomer cements)

2005
The organo-mineral dental cements (glass-ionomer cements) are the most versatile of all the dental cements and have been developed for a variety of applications. Many of their applications depend on their adhesive quality, which means that, unlike the non-adhesive traditional dental materials, they do not require the preparation of mechanical undercuts for retention and the consequent loss of tooth material. 1 , 2 This paper brings information concerning the influence of some compositional characteristics and the thermal treatment of glass powders on the reaction processes and on some properties of binding masses based on fluoroaluminosilicate glasses and aqueous polyacrylic acid solution (with 10% tartaric acid).
