AMOC Speed Series 2014 - Round Five: Blyton Park

2014
The fifth round of the AMOC Speed Series took place on 17 th August at the Blyton Park Driving Centre in Lincolnshire. Competitors faced a number of challenges at this excellent sprint circuit: learning the track layout as this was the first time AMOC has visited the venue; periodic heavy rain; and wind as befits an ex-airfield site. The rain resulted in competitors only having one dry run out of five (two practice and three timed) and all their best times were subsequently recorded on this run. Winner of the AMOC class was Tom Whittaker (154 secs) in his Vanquish, followed by Chris Quested (162 secs) in his Porsche and Mike Wadsworth (163 secs) in his beautifully repaired DB4. Joining the Series at Blyton was Andrew Forret in his fast and nimble BMW325i (168 secs) which seemed ideal for the track layout. Next up was Colin Kingsman (170 secs) in his DB6 who was hampered slightly by a gearbox problem, followed by Iain Muir (189 secs) in his pretty DB2 who clearly had lots of fun on his runs. Upholding DB7 honours, Andrew Reed brought his automatic version in with a time of 196 secs. AMOC competitors’ cars looked excellent in the paddock and were greatly admired by fellow competitors and spectators alike. We must thank the Mini Cross Drivers Association for their invitation to their event and for their warm welcome and attention during the day.
