Origin of the bedrock values of placer deposits

It is considered unlikely that any single mechanism, such as the one proposed by Cheney and Patton (ibid., v. 62, p. 852-853, 1967) will explain the locus of all placer deposits. Agitation by earthquakes is cited as one alternative.
