Palabras claves: Cuba, region oriental, vivienda de madera, influencia norteamericana, siglo xx. Abstract: The arrival of North American capital in the eastern region of Cuba, especially at the start of the 1900s, through companies that founded significant resources for the production of sugar, conditioned the appearance of the towns that grew in the vicinity. These communities were endowed with the necessary infrastructure so that the employees of the industry could satisfy their needs, among them housing, which was essential. Up to 1930 the most common material used in construction was wood, in a wide range of styles resulting from houses of diverse types which corresponded to the place of the hired employee in the company hierar- chy. Nowadays these constructions are languishing and the communities require work to strengthen them.
