Call for applications for the position of ERC Secretary General

2006
The ERC Scientific Council has decided to recruit a Secretary-General who will have a pivotal role in ensuring the integrated operation of the ERC as a whole. This will be a senior person with a recognised scientific profile and prominence in science policy, preferably spanning a range of fields. He/she will have an acknowledged successful leadership record in scientific funding organisations with peer review systems. The Secretary-General will have key responsibilities in the ERC, comparable to those of a Chief Executive, serving as a member of the ERC Board together with the ERC’s President and Vice Presidents (Chair and Vice Chairs of the Scientific Council) and the Director of the Dedicated Implementation Structure / Executive Agency (who in turn will have the role of a Chief Operating Officer). The Secretary-General will attend and report to the Scientific Council; working together with its Chair and Vice Chairs as well as the Director, he/she will oversee the effective and faithful implementation of the strategy and work programme established by the Scientific Council. Recruitment of the Secretary General will be strictly based on the pertinent qualifications. It will be carried out in conditions of strict confidentiality and respect of the candidates. Applications from persons with the required qualifications are invited, as well as nominations by others. Nominators will verify that the nominee will accept if selected. Applications and nominations should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae and a statement of relevant experience and interest.
