Several studies have investigated the relationship between the consumption of soft drinks and bone mineral density (BMD), but results are conflicting. We aimed to study the effect of soft drink consumption on BMD at 4 hip sites in 273 men and 698 women in the Boston Puerto Rican Osteoporosis Study using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Soft drink intakes were captured by food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The mean intake of soft drinks was 2.2 ± 4.3 and 1.5 ± 3.0 servings/week, for men and women, respectively.
