Oberflächenveredelung graphischer Papiere mittels Filmpresse

1997
Film presses are a useful tool to expand the range of coated qualifies and to enhance the profitability of production lines provided the paper qualities obtained represent added-value products. In its Augsburg mill, Haindl has adopted this option. In cooperation with a machine builder, they created a film press for PM1 which allows a broad product range to be manufactured. On the machine, sizing and pigmentizing solutions as well as different coating colour formulations can be applied at high production speeds. In spite of an optimized applicator system, surface quality losses are still occasionally being experienced in terms of splashes, winder marks or orange peel structures. As soon as these problems are overcome which are all due to film splitting phenomena, coated papers with grammages ranging from 23-90 g/m 2 and over can be successfully manufactured. The coat weights are in the range from 1-10 g/m 2 and side with a one-side surface modification being possible. Comparisons between traditionally coated papers and FC papers including high secondary fibre shares have revealed that the film press technology successfully attains the quality levels of LWC papers.
